Automated visual quality control in series production

VKK (Visual Quality Control) is a system for automated visual inspection of components on production lines, developed for E.G.O. Elektro-komponente — the Croatian member of the E.G.O. Group, a global supplier of heating and control components for the home appliance industry.

The system uses industrial cameras and custom computer vision algorithms to detect defects during production, with integration into a Siemens PLC and a C# / .NET application layer. Development was co-financed by NextGenerationEU funds.

What was delivered

Development of a visual inspection platform

A complete software system was developed connecting industrial cameras, computer vision algorithms and PLC control of the production line into a single platform tailored to series production.

  • 01 Development of custom computer vision algorithms for defect detection.
  • 02 Integration of industrial cameras with the Siemens PLC platform.
  • 03 C# / .NET application layer for control and configuration.
  • 04 Interface enabling operators to configure the system independently, without programming.

Results

120+ installations in production across three countries

VKK is today in active production with over 120 installations in E.G.O. Group production facilities in Croatia, Turkey and China. The system enables automated quality control without the need for constant engineering supervision, reducing the share of defective products and speeding up the production process.

This solution evolved into a standalone Homa Engineering product, designed to make automated visual quality control accessible to micro and small manufacturers without their own engineering staff.
